Transcript for "RECORDING - Product Update Briefing - Blackbaud Altru®":
Hello, everyone, and welcome to our May 2025 presentation of the product update briefing for Blackbaud Altru. My name is Nick Vlattas from marketing here. I'm gonna get us started, and then I will be handing it over to my colleague, Daisy Alarcon, who, is gonna take you through the bulk of today's materials. That'll start with, what's available now, followed by I'll take back over and highlight one of our, exciting partners in the ever expanding Altria e ecosystem, and then I'll hand it back to Daisy who will walk you through, our most recently released features as well as what's to come so you can leverage those today as well as be informed on what is coming down the pike. And finally, we'll close with some opportunities for you to connect and learn more about Altru. Just a little bit of housekeeping to get us started in case you are new to Goldcast, which is our webinar platform. The web webinar is being broadcast through one way audio, so hopefully you can hear me okay. You will not be able to speak. If you'd like to leverage closed captions, you can hover over the stage icon at the top left of your screen and click the CC button to toggle the captions on and off. If you encounter any audio or technical issues at any time, such as the slides are frozen or glitching, you know, audio not syncing, you can usually just do a quick refresh of your browser. I I know it sounds basic, but typically the best way, to get back to the the most recent and live portion of the presentation. If that doesn't work or, you know, you're just having technology issues up the wall, fear not. You will be receiving a recording of this cap, presentation shortly after we wrap up, and you can consume that on your own time. So the right of your screen, you'll see the q and a tab. That's the best way to interact with us. We have a team of experts behind the scenes following up, hopefully, with all your questions in real time. If we do fall behind, we will follow-up with you directly after the fact. In that spirit, if you do have a question, please be as specific as possible when you ask. Don't just say, when is this available, or how do I use this? Try and reference it by names that we can ensure we're following up appropriately. And finally, next to that q and a tab, you should see the docs tab, which is where you can access any resources referenced within the presentation, including a companion doc, which summarizes everything that Daisy is going to present, and any relevant links such as knowledge base articles or if there's a registration opportunity. You can find all those links in the docs tab. And finally, you can adjust any of your settings by using the cogwheel at the bottom of your event space. And just a little bit more fun with some boilerplate to get us going, but please be advised that today's presentation contains forward looking statements that are always subject to change due to any unforeseen circumstances. So, any developmental projections we do offer do not represent a firm commitment or guarantee. So please make all purchases and business decisions based on the features and functionality that is currently known and available. And with that, I'm going to hand it over to Daisy who will get us started with what's available now. Hi, everyone, and thanks, Nick, for going over the agenda and housekeeping and safe harbor statements and all those good notes. Welcome, everyone. I am going to first, let's go back to that slide. So first, I'm going to set the scene for the presentation and for the updates I'm going to be covering with you today. So I'm going to go over our guiding themes for Altru, and we're going to use these guiding themes throughout the presentation. So for those of you that are new or newish to Altru, Altru is the cohesive management system to meet the needs of all of your stakeholders in your arts and cultural organization from the development director to the membership manager and to the ticket seller. Our guiding themes for Altru are to inspire patrons by making it easier for your patrons to interact with your organization, engage employees by making it easier for your staff to use Altru and focus on supporting your patrons, and amplify impact by connecting other solutions and expanding Altru's connectivity in ways that were not possible before. And we'll focus on these guiding themes throughout the presentation as we tell the Altru story throughout three horizons. First, we'll review updates and features that were released at the end of twenty twenty four and are available today in Altru. Then I'll review some recently released enhancements that were made about made available about a month ago. And finally, I'll review our future vision for Altru and discuss new key themes we are exploring for beyond 2025. So let's jump in with what's available now and what was released in Altru version 5.32. As I said, we're gonna be guiding our updates and feature enhancements by our guiding themes. So first, under inspire patrons. Altru version 5.32 marked the end of an era for non responsive web form layouts in the Altru web forms page designer. Only mobile friendly responsive web form layouts are now supported. Blackbaud donation forms, also known as Blackbaud online giving, added a gold meter to the optimized donation form at the end of last year. Under engage employees, we also saw a major change in how we authenticate SOAP API and OData connections. These connections now require a proxy user and a personal access token, and I'll go over that a bit more. And as always, with every Altru release, we will meet the highest security standards and include ongoing security updates and maintenance. Finally, under amplify impact, the Altru payment terminal can now support recurring gifts, and I'll talk a bit more on this as well. And we have updated several key web form components to the latest and currently supported versions. So let's talk about those noninteractive users, which are also known as proxy users, and they are now required for all SOAP API and OData connections. We introduced proxy users a couple of years ago as a more secure and streamlined authentication experience for noninteractive use, such as custom integrations and applications from third party partners. In version 5.32, we made some additional enhancements to support your usage such as performance improvements to speed up the authentication workflow of the proxy user, and we expanded the available endpoints that are now available to the proxy user. So for that full list, go check out the Altru what's new. To establish a SOAP API or OData connection, all you need to do is create a proxy user and token in Altru and update your connections with the proxy username and token instead of your BBID username and password. Similar workflow. You can reference knowledge base article two zero zero three six six for more information. In Ultra version 5.32 included some major changes to Ultra web forms as we continue to ensure your system is on the latest and greatest versions. As I mentioned, we said goodbye to nonresponsive page layouts. All true web forms will only support responsive layouts moving forward. These responsive layouts automatically adjust and adapt your page content depending on the screen size or Internet browser a patron user a patron is using, so such as a laptop or a cell phone or a tablet. Next, we updated the WYSIWYG editors. WYSIWYG meaning what you see is what you get, those text editors where you, update all of your email content in Altru. They now use the latest version of tiny MCE version six point eight point two. And we also update the jQuery UI and Bootstrap web form components to the latest supported versions. And as a reminder, with every single Ultra release, we always recommend that you test your web forms for any changes that may have affected your customizations. Or if you're using a consultant, a third party to customize your web forms, please connect with them to review any changes with your web forms design with every release. And now onto the Altru payment terminal, also known as the WisePOSI devices. They now support recurring payments. This was a highly requested feature, and we hope you've been making the most of it since they were available, at the end of last year and moving forward into 2025. The Altru payment terminal can now process auto renewing membership transactions in daily sales and advanced sales. So as a quick reminder, before Altru version 5.32, the device did not support recurring payments. It would not process the in it would process the initial payment, but it would not tokenize the credit card for future installments. So now the terminal will tokenize credit cards for those future recurring transactions. And all those, and those tokenized credit cards will process future installments successfully in your credit card EFT processes in Altru automatically. A quick note about this new workflow is that patrons will need to authorize your organization to store their payment method by agreeing to the terms that will be shown on the device. And as a general best practice, you will need to send a pay the patrons a communication with the terms and conditions for any and all recurring payments. So please check out the knowledge based articles referenced on the slide to learn more. And now I'm going to hand it back to Nick. Yeah. Thank you, Daisy. And to give Daisy a chance to catch her breath, it's my pleasure to introduce you all to, one of our value partners, Golden, who offers some very exciting features to help you navigate your volunteer programs. You can also find, a link to their information in the docs tab, and you can also go check them out directly in the Blackbaud marketplace where their, platform is available for you to explore and, see if it can help you, really, be a catalyst for your volunteer program and converting those volunteers into lifelong supporters and donors. So check out Golden. We're excited to work with them, and we hope that you all might be as well. So with that, I will now go back to Daisy, who's gonna take you through some of our release in recent releases directly in Blackbaud Altru. Thanks again, Nick. That did give me a break to catch my breath and have a bit of water. But let's go through the next two horizons. So let's talk about our recently released all true version 5.33 items that was released at the March. So, again, we've grouped these by our guiding themes and under inspire patrons at the top. We made several improvements to the password reset and user registration with form pages, such as updating on screen instructions for clarity, and I will also take a deep dive into that in a bit. We also upgraded the bootstrap version for the calendar date picker component, and we removed jQuery migrate as it was no longer needed in web forms. And the Blackbaud online giving team released an update to that goal meter that they just released at the end of last year. So now that goal meter can have, offline gift total amounts and gift counts added to the meter as well. Under engage employees, building on the improvements we made to proxy users in the prior release, we added a details column to the personal access token data list, and I'll review that with you in a bit. Web form URLs in the Ultra application have been changed from HTTP to HTTPS to ensure quicker load times and make sure the secure versions of the URL are being utilized. And we updated the Microsoft report viewer to the latest version everywhere you run canned reports inside of Altru. Finally, under Amplify Impact, over a year ago, Blackbaud Merchant Services, also known as BBMS, enabled credit card updater for all BBMS customers for free. So to make sure all of those credit card updater updates are synced in your Altru account, we have enabled CCU by default in Altru. We also removed unsupported payment gateways from the merchant account setup screens in Altru, so those screens now only show supported gateways such as Blackbaud Merchant Services. And we added a new system role to quickly and easily enable O Matic integrations in the future. So let's jump into that update about the details column added to the personal access token grid. So when you are viewing a proxy user record in Altru, you can now see this details column in the token section of the page. Previously, details were captured during a manual or automatic deactivation of the tokens, but they couldn't be viewed on the page afterwards. So it was recorded in the database, but it wasn't visible to the user afterwards. Now the details column will display the reason that was recorded when a token is revoked or inactivated. For instance, when a pay a proxy user attempts to authenticate five times in a row with invalid credentials, that proxy user and all of its tokens are automatically deactivated. So the details column will capture this too many invalid attempts reason and the details in the grid as well. So to view this new column, you can go to the administration functional area and navigate to the application users page. From the application users page, select the proxy user to go to its record and then navigate to the personal access token tab. There, you will see the reason and details in the grid and all that information that is captured when the token is revoked. And Altru version 5.33 continued on the momentum from our last release to bring more web form updates and improvements. First, we reviewed our various patron login workloads in-depth and made user experience improvements to provide clarity in common areas where patrons have reported issues. For example, after a patron submits their email for a password reset link, we updated the language on the page to let the patron know that they will either receive an email link if they had an existing user account. But if they do not receive an email link, then they may need to register and create a new user account instead. Next, as we reviewed all of these workflows, we saw common areas where there were redundant fields or controls present that were unnecessary or confusing. We removed those extra fields and controls to improve the user interface. For example, after a patron successfully resets their password through the forgot your password link, the page would still show the new password text entry field and a submit button. So this led patrons to believe that they need to resubmit a new password again. We have removed those extra fields and only show a success message prompting users to log in with their new password. We also made component upgrades as part of our security commitment to support the latest and greatest versions. So we removed jQuery migrate as it was no longer needed, and we upgraded the Bootstrap date picker calendar component to version 1.9. Finally, last week at the April, we made an update to to our Altru version 5.33, where we changed the password expiration settings based on updated missed guidance. Webform passwords will now remain valid for nine nine nine nine days. Previously, patch, patrons were required to reset their password every three hundred and sixty five days. And, again, very quick reminder, with every release, we recommend you test your web forms for any changes that may have affected your customizations. Finally, I want to go over those payment related updates made in 05/1933 a bit. If you've been to these product update briefings in the past, we have talked about credit credit card updater quite a bit. But for those of you who have not and need a quick refresher, credit card updater was an add on service that automatically scanned stored cards in Blackbaud Merchant Services. And if new card data existed, it would update the credit card information while retaining the original payment plan details. A great example of this is those recurring gift cards before they expire or gift cards. Those recurring gift credit cards that are coming up on their credit card expiration date. Credit card updater would scan and update that credit card information. So that way, you wouldn't skip an installment and you wouldn't need to reach out to the donor. Credit card updater previously needed to be purchased to be enabled in Altru and in BBMS. But for the last year or so, it has been included for free for all b BBMS customers, and it has been running automatically in your BBMS accounts since then. Since credit card updater is no longer an add on service and it's already running in BBMS, we want to ensure that reporting and information syncing between Altru and BBMS are in sync. We have automatically enabled credit card updater in Altru with version 5.33, and we have also removed the enable disable task. Previously, this task enabled a business process that would fetch the updated data from DBMS and update it in Altru. Since credit card updater is always running in DBMS these days, the business process will be enabled by default to not miss a beat in that data sync. As part of keeping our systems in sync, we also removed all unsupported gateways from the add edit merchant account screens in Altru. Only supported gateways will now show in the drop down. And we're gonna talk about our final horizon, but I'm gonna mute myself while I take a quick water break. And let's talk about those longer term goals and long term vision that we have for Altru beyond 2025. As a reminder, as we mentioned at the very start of the presentation, everything that I'm about to share is currently in research and as such is subject to change. So as we speak of the future for Altru, I want to share the refresh themes we are following that match our long term vision. If you watch the last product update briefing, this content will be familiar, and we want to be keep it that way. This is our long term vision, and we are working steadfast to continue progress towards these goals and themes. Let me share with you some of the work we have in research today. So the first theme would be modernized experiences. We are working to bring you a revamped experience for both your users and your patrons. And to that end, we are working on a new reimagined Sky UX user interface for Altru. The Sky UX experience will be modern and fresh while also still familiar, giving your users both efficiency and familiarity, but with a modern look and feel that will bring Altru into the future. Next, we'll focus on connectivity to ecosystems. We want to help you grow your capabilities by facilitating connectivity to outside apps and integrations like those available in the Blackbaud marketplace and the complimentary Blackbaud solutions like online giving. Finally, and just as important, boost revenue generation. We are dedicated to finding ways to help you generate more money. For example, updated payment terminals will accept recurring gifts, and online giving provides modern forms proven to increase donations. Our mission is to continue to find more ways that Altru can actively participate in the work of boosting revenue for your organization. And all this value we plan to deliver for these future themes will be powered by Blackbaud Sky. But what is Blackbaud Sky? Blackbaud Sky is our modern and open architecture that provides a set of services and capabilities that can be used across all Blackbaud solutions. Starting with Sky API, it's the common framework for APIs that empowers you to integrate capabilities of Blackbaud solutions with other critical applications and services. Blackbaud developers, partners, and customers can use Sky API to extend and customize the capabilities of Blackbaud solutions. This common API framework means that partners can offer solutions through our marketplace that reach more customers and deliver more value across our solutions. Next, we have Sky application services, which allow us to deliver innovation faster by building once and delivering across our entire product portfolio. You likely know that Blackbaud has multiple solutions that can send outbound email to donors. But did you know that those solutions come in a common email gateway service? It wasn't always like this. It used to be that every product that could send email had its own email infrastructure, causing us to duplicate efforts effort across solutions. And finally, Sky UX. Sky UX is our open source user experience framework that helps us deliver consistent and cohesive front end user experiences across Blackbaud solutions. Sky UX is mobile friendly, accessible, and secure. And I want to remind you that this journey to the sky has been years in the making. These milestones have guided us to progress along this larger journey to modernize and bring Altru into the sky ecosystem. First, Blackbaud ID became available to all Altru customers. BBID provides improved authentication security with benefits including single sign on and multifactor authentication. It's a common login across Blackbaud that enables integration of workflows and truly connected systems. Then in 2023, Sky APIs became available to all Altru customers. Sky APIs are modern rest APIs built in a framework already used by many Blackbaud products. So what's next in our journey to the sky? Expanded connectivity through Sky APIs and a new UI through Sky UX. And as a future focus, we will over overhaul Altru's user interface to be more mobile friendly, more accessible, and more secure by leveraging Sky UX. We would not have gotten here today if it wasn't for the groundwork we've been building on these past years. So let's dive into what the future with Sky UX looks like for Altru. As we mentioned earlier, being a part of the Sky ecosystem not only opens Altru to be able to leverage the Sky APIs, but it also means that we can bring Sky UX and a modern user experience modern user experience to Altru. Sky UX facilitates a consistent experience in Blackbaud solutions and empowers third party developers to create customizations and applications that drive impact and deliver outcome. Sky UX is designed with accessibility, consistency, and efficiency in mind. It is probably open source, and it can be used by partners and third party developers with the same toolset as Blackbaud developers. This means that everyone can provide the same consistent experience. So let's take a sneak peek into what the work in progress. So this is an example of a constituent record with Skyworks. You can tell the layout's familiar. A huge benefit here right away is that this page is in alignment with WCAG two point one double a standards, and it provides an accessible, usable experience for everyone. Other benefits include a fully responsive mobile friendly page across different screen sizes and browsers, consistent consistent experience across Blackbaud solutions. So the look and feel is already familiar. Some of you are using other Blackbaud solutions. And it is a modern look and feel on a framework that is cons constantly improving, and it never grows stale. So just a reminder that this is a sneak peek, and it's still the early days. And we still have more to come, but we wanted to take this opportunity to show you. And even though it is the early days, we want to share with you a bit more of how we're doing this transformation. So one of our guiding principles for this new user interface is that it will be intuitive for your users. When you first encounter our new user experience, it will be recognizable to you Even as we are introducing the modernized look and feel and optimizing workflows, it will still be familiar. With the move to Sky UX, we are moving away from the old EXT JS UI framework and the old jQuery library to a modern front end on our Sky UX 12 design framework with Angular version 19 framework. This is a front end transformation, so we are going to continue to leverage the existing made metadata and robust business logic already built into Altru. This metadata driven approach allows us to to accelerate the transformation while keeping Altru's powerful functionality available to you. The goal is that we combine the best of both worlds in a modern UX framework that will allow you to adopt Sky UX faster as we drive more and more of our innovation efforts on Blackbaud Sky. So we've talked about connectivity to ecosystems and modernized experiences on Blackbaud Sky. Now let's talk about how we can also use Blackbaud Sky to boost revenue generation. We are continuing research to understand what it would take to bring online payment processing to group sales in Altru. This is a highly requested feature by you, and it was recently taken on by a team in Blackbaud's off the grid hacking event last summer. Riding on the enthusiasm from off the grid, we have started working with engineering to document the requirements on how to make this a reality in Altru. And it's a great example of how we can leverage several aspects of the Blackbaud Sky ecosystem to boost a new payment feature. First, Altru Group sales are robust and flexible. By adding a new task to email a payment link to the contact, we combine the functionality of Altru Group sales with Blackbaud email services and a unique and secure payment URL within Altru. Next, the online payment can be supported by Blackbaud checkout. Blackbaud checkout is our secure and compliant compliant payment method, and it is built with the payment Sky APIs, and the interface is based on Sky UX. Speaking of Sky UX, we will explore how to use the current Ultra Web Forms page structure and the modernized Sky UX interface to present a modern user friendly online payment page. Finally, after the payment has been processed, the Ultra APIs can be used to update both the group sales reservation and the payment records in Altru. And from Altru, you can start the process anew with the next payment installment. I've gone through a lot. As Nick said at the beginning of the presentation, you will be emailed a link with the on demand recording that you can watch later and reabsorb all of this information as well as, you know, hitting all those links in the the docs tab and resources. Make sure you download that companion doc as well. But now I'm going to hand it back to Nick to help wrap us up with some upcoming events and opportunities to connect with Blackbaud representatives. Yeah. Thank you, Daisy, and thanks especially to all of you for your time today. Before we do let you go, as Daisy mentioned, I just wanna highlight a few resources out there, and opportunities to connect and better leverage Altru and all of your Blackbaud solutions. First off, Daisy touched on a few updates for the online giving forms and payment services that integrate with Altru. But there's just so much more that we want to share in those realms that, you know, warrants their own product update briefing sessions. So if you haven't signed up for those, you can do so at the QR code there on your screen as well as in the docs tab. But if you're not familiar or just as a reminder, the new online and optimized donation forms are available now for Altru and will continue to expand in their functionality with, ever expanding tools to, and drive your conversion rate when someone actually lands on your donation page that they're actually, completing that donation, as well as eliminating and reducing your processing fees and simplifying reconciliation so you can grow your giving program. So, again, check out the, online giving and payment services pubs. And as always, if those times don't work for you, please do register and you'll get the on demand link that you can consume, at a convenient time for you. BBCon, once again, on the horizon. This year, it will be October in Philadelphia. We're excited to be back on the East Coast after, Seattle last year and Denver the year before that. So, hopefully, Philadelphia will be approachable for many of you. If you haven't been to BBCon, it's it's certainly our biggest event of the year and provides some super exciting opportunities for you all to, hear from each other and and network amongst your peers as well as, some of our leadership, product leaders to get on the main stage and and tell you about our overall strategies and and development courses at Blackbaud, as well as some motivational and really exciting keynote speakers as well that, we, we love to bring in front of you all and allow you to connect with. So please join us at BBCON. Right now, registration is open, early bird pricing going on right now. So your best opportunity to take advantage of some early discounting, and there will be a dedicated arts and cultural, content track. So each session will will feature content relevant to arts and cultural organizations and or Altru specifically. So, be on the lookout for some of that, those announcements coming soon as well the actual session titles are and such. But, in the meantime, we hope you'll register, and we hope to see you in fella Philadelphia. Another great opportunity, PB Dev Days is coming, June. And this is another great opportunity to learn more about how to expand Altru's capabilities regardless of your skill level as a developer. Just to give you an idea of what to expect, You can see here there's just a a wide ranging course load, ranging from just getting started for the first time, an introduction to Sky UX, which, Daisy talked to you about and how that is the future. So great to start leveraging it now and be ahead of the curve, as well as you can get a little bit more advanced, you know, using OData and, some customizations for sales alerts. Lots of tools that you can use, again, regardless of your skill, level as a developer. There's some low and no code options, all the way up to completely customized development if you, you know, are a more advanced coder. But, price ranges vary, based on, you know, the courses, you find, most of which will be very approachable, and affordable. So, please explore, b b dev days. There's a link to that in the doc session as well. If you want more time with your, customer success team and fellow users like yourself, we, excited to offer these, sort of smaller intimate birds of a feather, sessions that you can address topics of shared interest, again, with your peers. These meetings are, completely virtual and allow you to interact with each other in, a smaller group settings, really get some valuable conversation going, encouraging, how to use new features or just adoption in general, talk to some experts and and hear from from peers just like you in your area that, you know, maybe had achieved success or overcame some obstacles that you're facing. So just kinda give you some ideas of, how how to best use Altru and and drive your mission forward. So be on the lookout from for communications from your customer success manager or, as always, just please reach out directly. Always excited to share that information with you. Additionally, we have some upcoming, webinars, through the success team that, they're excited to, again, help you get the most out of Altru. As of now, these, registrations should be coming open, relatively soon. So just be on the lookout for emails and communications on how you can, watch these. And again, they will be available completely on demand as well. So the not bound by time in any regard. Additionally, we will be present at these upcoming conferences this summer. We're excited to, have booths and an opportunity to connect with you at the American Museum membership, Association of Children's Museums, the American Public Garden Association, and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, those conferences. So please, if you are there, please stop by. Again, opportunity to network with, customer success folks with Blackbaud, and, we're always excited to to talk with you in person. So if not, maybe you go into one of these. Be on the lookout for for your Blackbaud representation. Additionally, if you aren't already, we hope you'll get involved in the Altru community where you can can again network and collaborate with peers from other organizations on fresh new fundraising ideas or seek advice on challenges you're currently facing and influence the future of development by submitting ideas to the idea bank. As Daisy highlighted, we do take those suggestions to heart and are always monitoring them. So if you think there's, something that could help you get more out of Altru, please put it in the community. There's a good chance you're not alone, and, we love to hear your voices, reflect those ideas. So please do, be vocal and, we're we're always happy to connect with you through the community.
