Transcript for "Creating & Managing Membership Add-ons": Good afternoon, everyone, and good morning to any of my West Coast friends that might be with us today. We're gonna get started in just a moment or so. Just letting the numbers grow of my all true friends that have come to visit today. Really appreciate you being here. Those of you that are joining will be starting in just a moment. Thank you. For those of you that are joining me right now, our numbers are slowly climbing, so it's gonna give me just another second or two before I start. Just wanna make sure everybody's here before I start doing the good good stuff. Okay. Looks like everyone's here. If people join, they'll be able to catch up at this point. So today, we're gonna be doing the finer points of Altru with membership add ons. This is our Connect for Success session, and hopefully, you guys get some good information out of this. And a happy Wednesday to you as well, Ward. So a little bit about me. I am glad to meet you all. My name is Evan. I'm a customer success manager. I live in the great state of Maine, where it's currently a lovely fall day even though it's not technically fall yet. I am a lover of the outdoors, consumer of pies, and, I'm gonna start my apple picking, sojourns soon. So, you guys might hear me talking to you guys about, apple pie if you hear from me, next week when I do something. This is a great season, to be in the New England area. So, if you haven't ever been up here, it's a great time. And if you guys are unaware of this, apples are ready to be picked. They don't just come in October. There's September apples. They're wonderful. So that's right. I'm here at Blackbaud. I've been here for six years now, and I love to help people out with Altru. So hopefully, some of the stuff we do today will be helpful to you. Some of you have already found the chat, which is in your upper right. If you will be so kind, I would love it if you could go up in the chat and tell me a little bit about yourself, like what you do, where you are, what's going on in your place of work, maybe some things you're looking forward to this fall, your favorite kind of pie. We're not ready to talk about Halloween just yet, but soon. Rainy Miami. Hello, Eddie. Hello, Terry. Saburne. Hello. Terry, I know it doesn't seem great that you're in a rainy Miami, but I'll tell you, we actually could use the rain up here in Maine. We're kinda in a drought. Mushroom ice cream? What? That is blowing my mind. What a weird thought. Oh my god. I don't know if that's delicious or awful. Oh, I'm with a garbage plate. If you say so, Maya. Oh, Terry, I'm so sorry. That's a lot of rain. Peach cobbler. Oh, yeah. You got me there. That's delicious. Oh, ziplining. I love ziplining. And actually, up in New York, there's some great ziplines. I've been on a few up there. They're fantastic. Alright. So people can continue to please talk in the chat. I'm glad to see that you guys are doing it, and that is just, the way to go. It's up there. So, feel free to continue to use the chat, and feel free to do the best you can to answer and ask questions through the chat. So, that's the place to connect to me too. I will try my best to watch it and see what we can do to answer any questions that come up in there. I see some people from Houston, Texas where it's still hot summer weather. And, I'm sure it is. I'm sure in Florida and Texas, it's still pretty hot. We sort of roll into autumn a little early up here. Some quick housekeeping. I just want you guys to know before we get started, that the audio is broadcast through your computer speakers. So, hopefully, you can hear me. If you encounter any audio or technical issues such as slides freezing, a quick refresh of your browser is usually the best way to get it working again. Worst case scenario, leave log in again. Use the chat to submit any questions, and that's how I'll get to you. There's also a documents section. So go to the docs section that is up right next to the chat in your upper right. Just go ahead and click right in there. Also, you can adjust any settings by using the cog wheel at the bottom. That's a great place to get in there. So, use the tabs in the top of the event space to see the agendas and stuff, but mostly, just have some fun while you're in here. Okay? Hopefully, you guys already have a membership program at your organization. If you don't and you need help getting it set up, please reach out to us here at the Blackbaud team, and we can try to help you get going if you haven't started using it. You should definitely consider getting it going if you haven't. There's so many benefits to having a membership program for a nonprofit that it's something we could spend the entire half hour talking about, but we won't. I just wanna make sure that you guys, if you don't have one, that you really consider using, your Altru to get it up and running and get it going. And I know that we're gonna do a deeper dive into just add ons, but I wanna make sure that anyone here that is considering a membership program knows that we are here to help. And, if you do wanna get one going, let your customer success manager know, and we'll talk to you about how you can get the most out of Altru with it. Speaking of getting the most out of Altru and membership, let's talk about an add on. What are what are they? How do they work? Right? So an add on is like an extra layer to a membership that you make available to potential customers for an additional price. This isn't something that's a benefit for a specific membership program, but something that they can add as a topping to the ice cream that is your membership program. A great example would be like a parking spot. Maybe there's limited parking, or VIP parking that you have available at your organization. Maybe you want to make that something that some members can use, but they have to pay extra for it. It's not included in their membership. So you give them the opportunity to add that parking spot for an additional charge. This is especially good if you have a city, parking area, where there's very limited ways to get to the front of the building. And so before you can actually add a add on to a membership program, the first thing that you actually need to do is create it. So you have to go into your configuration and make one right there. But before you do it, you have to think about it and make a plan. Make sure that you've really sussed this out. What is it you wanna offer? How you're gonna track it? What's it gonna cost? And, really, what's the improvement on the experience. Right? Here's a good example to think about it. If you wanna do something like an unlimited lunches in the cafe and it's something you wanna borrow, how are people gonna in the cafe going to track to know that you already have that? Is this something that you're gonna send them a card for with an expiration date? Is it something you're gonna make, the cafe workers open up an Altru and check? Because these are all things that are have to be considered when you think about how it's going to work. If you're gonna have the people in the cafe open up Altru and check it, a add on isn't something that's just really easy to see right away. So it's gonna be something that people would have to, like, look through, which can cause slowdown in the line. So think about things like that when you're creating these add ons. There are really two types of add ons. That's the way the system is broken down, benefits and additional members. With a benefit, it's someone getting something extra. Right? This is not part of your membership. It's just something a topper. When it's an additional member, you are adding someone to a program. In some cases, this is done and you don't care who the member is bringing with them. So a good example for a, extra person would be like a plus one. Right? So now you're just saying, wherever this person is, they can bring a date, whoever that is. And you're not really gonna track who that person is. It's different than a membership where it's two people on the membership because in that case, you're gonna actually track who those two members are. So when you add a, add on to a membership program, this is gonna be hard for me to say because you're gonna I'm gonna say the word add right next to the word add on a bunch of times, so just bear with me. But you can add your add on, to a membership when you're creating that membership program or you can add it after the program is made. That means that you can, right now, go and create a new add on and then add it to an existing membership program. I managed to get through that. Thank you. However, when you're doing add ons and you're putting them in midseason or things like that, they can only be sold at the time that a membership is purchased or renewed. That means that you can't have an existing member go online right now and buy an add on. However, there is a way to add them on after from the back end. There is directions for this in the docs section. You just look for how do I add an add on to a membership after purchase. That's in the doc section and that has directions on how you can add somebody's add on. But other than that, the only time to really buy it is if they're renewing or they're purchasing a new membership. If you've added a add on to a membership program, you wanna make sure that that is available on the web. And it might not be because your membership program is already there, so there might have to be some changes you do. So make sure you go into the web area and open up your web form for the program, then make sure the add on is checked off on the include area so that these new add ons will show on all of your web pages. Okay. Anyone have any questions about what I've said so far? Looks pretty good. So I'm gonna do a quick demo, if you don't mind. I'd like to show you what we're talking about so you understand where everything is. And if you have any questions, just throw them up there, but just understand that I'll have a different screen open with Altru in a moment. So it might take me a moment to see what you're talking about. If you bear with me, I'll bring it up. Okay. This is a fake Altru database. This is not a real Altru database. This is nobody's data. This is an Altru database that the Blackbaud users use to give demonstrations and to practice with. So some of the stuff you might see in here is ridiculous. This is your membership program area. You can see all of your currently existing membership programs right here. We're gonna come down here to the configure area and we're gonna click add ons. In here, we have all of our existing add ons. When I click the add button, all I have to do is name this and choose what type it's going to be. In this benefit, we're gonna give them unlimited candy bars, which is dangerous. I don't recommend you do that. But maybe you're gonna have an unlimited candy bars pass, and now it's in your add ons area. I go back to the membership area. When I go to an existing membership, and I go to the levels area, I can see the add ons that this place this allows for this particular membership. And I can say, I wanna add this new one in, unlimited candy bars. And the cost for an unlimited candy bars is gonna be a $100 because there's gonna be lots of candy bars consumed. Now they can see that as a particular purchase choice that'll go with this. And as I mentioned before, you would have to go in from the back end and add them in if you're going to just, have them buy it for preexisting members. But I wanna make sure this is on my web form. So I'm gonna go to the web area, manage membership forms. Going to look for the one that I just worked on. Here it is. Gonna click options. And there's a pop up. Hold on. I'm having a hard time sharing it. That's the pop up right here. Okay. So here is the fields to include area for this particular membership. And if you look, see the add ons are right here, and the one that we just added has not been checked for the include. So I'll hit that. I'll hit save. It'll bring me back here. Now I can actually go to the URL for it. And you can see down here, after I've decided which one I want, I have my pop up right here for my new add on. Okay? Personally, I think a $100 for unlimited candy bars would be a huge bargain. So that's my recommendation for pricing if that's what you're gonna do. Okay. So that is how we get in and out and we create add ons and how we use them. Do you guys have any questions so far about what I've shown? We have a lot of resources that are gonna help you guys with this, and I have brought them all together and put them together for you in the docs section. Once again, that is in the upper right next to the chat area. You cannot click on these, things that you're seeing on your screen right here and open them, but they are all in the docs section. And I really recommend that you go up there and you get those. A recording of this is going to be sent to you in case you're wondering, so you'll have all this at a later time. If you are looking at boosting your membership program or just you boosting the use of Altru for you guys, something that you might wanna consider is a Blackbaud Advisory Plus subscription. You unlock your potential with because our personalized one to one consulting will design to help you achieve a specific goal. You get tailored guidance using your data, focusing on your team. It's a subscription based, but you leverage deep experience and product expertise. This is something that if you haven't heard about, you might be interested in learning more about. And if you are interested in learning more about this, all you have to do is put something in the chat, say, hey, Evan. I'm curious about advisory plus, and I'll have somebody reach out to you and talk to you about adding it to your subscription. But I can say that I've been doing this for a while now. We've only had Blackbaud advisory plus for a little over a year. But, since we've had it, I have a lot of customers who do this and they really enjoy having an Advisory Plus subscription. A lot of people have used it to get a lot more out of their system and to leverage a much better value out of Altru. So, again, if you're interested in anything like that, please let me know and put it in the chat, and I'll have somebody reach out to you guys about learning more about that. I am gonna launch a survey. So if you, can do that survey, I would really appreciate it. The survey is a great way for us to learn more about what's working for you and what's not working by us. So please fill it out. I do wanna talk to you briefly about your other resources that you guys have. We have Blackbaud University, which has lots of courses including about managing your memberships. We also have customer support who is up to date and learning more all the time as we make new knowledge base articles, which is your third one. Knowledge base is filled with thousands of published solutions, and they are free in public. So the best one though is your Blackbaud community. You guys are all part of the Blackbaud community whether you want know it or not. Going to the Blackbaud community is a place to connect, share your best practices, and support people who help the organizations like yours all around the world. I personally wanna tell you that I appreciate all the work that you're all doing for your communities. The arts is super important, and it really helps to make a community come together. And it's a vital part of what makes us a great society. So thank you so much for everything that you and your team does to help support your arts and cultural organization. That's all the information I had to share with you today. I really appreciate you guys coming by, and have a great rest of your week.
